Hello good folks on Reddit,
I've recently had the pleasure of acquiring a copy of George Orwell's essay collection "Can socialists be happy?", and am looking for similar recommendations outside the Orwell-verse as I've been down his rabbit hole this past year (can recommend, though Keep The Aspidistra Flying was a tough read).
I found the essay "Pleasure Spots" particularly interesting due to its emphasis on how modern advancements act as extinguishers of critical thought and consciousness, whilst aiming to snuff out any remaining curiosity to 'drive him nearer the animals'.
I also recently finished "Walden" by Henry David Thoreau, which I enjoyed immensely.
What should I read next to retain (and perhaps regain) an ounce of critical thought? What made you go 'huh, that's rather clever?'
Thanks in advance <3
