I feel like it's quite difficult to write cool dialogue and develop cool characters without it coming across as a little bit cringey when the medium is the written word. Quite often, I'm very aware that I'm reading dialogue written by an author and it doesn't feel authentic and breaks the escapism feeling for me.
I really like Tarantino movies and a big part of that is the dialogue for me and I love the amount of moments he creates in his writing/directing where I sit and think 'That's cool as fuck!' I'd love to find some books which give me the same feeling. Hopefully this isn't a completely niche feeling and one which resonates with other people!

Anything by Elmore Leonard. QT actually turned Rum Punch into Jackie Brown.
Joe Abercrombie.
Best Served Cold is very much Fantasy Kill Bill
No Country for Old Men.
Nobody writes dialogue like Cormac McCarthy
Persona by Vincent Kane. Dialog really pulls you in, just like Taratino, a true genius.
