I want to get my partner (M21) some books for Christmas, he thinks he's into crime and horror. He read "the long walk" by Stephen king. Does anyone have any good recommendations?
The detective Harry bosch books by Michael connely are great!! There are more then 30 books in the series, where he solves murder mysteries

Peter Robinson (DCI Banks series) and Ian Rankin (Detective Rebus series) are two authors you can look at. The DCI Banks series takes a few books to start becoming a bit more gory and “violent”. Jeffrey Archer has written a number of brilliant books but they are not really on the gory side of crime thrillers.
