My teenage daughter absolutely loves fantasy and wants a few fantasy novels for Christmas. Her favorites are the Percy Jackson books and of course Harry Potter. Tolkien is bit intimidating to her still, though she enjoyed the LOTR movies. I’m a huge Terry Pratchett fan, so she already has the Tiffany Aching books and access to all of Discworld.
She doesn’t like sex scenes or major romantic subplots (some romance is okay with her; she just doesn’t want it to dominate the story), and she particularly loves intelligent female protagonists. She also loves a really immersive world. She likes humor, especially sarcastic humor or even some dark humor. She is very multicultural in her tastes, so I think she would be particularly delighted by a non-American/non-British author, but that isn’t a strict requirement. If it were part of a series, that would be an added bonus.
Anyone have any good suggestions?

The Hobbit is much more welcoming than LotR. I read it in 5th grade no prob.
