Hello, my mamaw is 67 years old and she has MS that went undiagnosed for decades. She's struggled for years with issues with her memory and forgetfulness and sadly it is progressing. She told me today reading has become extremely frustrating because she can't remember what she read the day before, and has to go back several chapters. And it gets so frustrating she doesn't want to start any new books and she has loved reading her entire life.

Some of my most cherished memories is going to the library with her and so many of her stories involve books and reading.

I suggested she try short stories since she wouldn't have so many chapters to worry about and I would love some suggestions. Or, if anyone has any other sort of suggestions for people living with memory issues/forgetfulness/brain fog in general that would be so, so appreciated.

Some of her favorite books are The Kite Runner, East of Eden, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Memoirs of a Geisha. She also loves anything about World War II especially if it's about women.

I would love to get her a collection of shorter books/novellas that might be easier for her to read for Christmas.

    Thank you for any suggestion!

    1. Dubliners by James Joyce is a beautiful collection of short stories that are kind of a slice of life of early 1900s Dublin. She might also be interested in All The Light We Cannot See if she is interested in a WWII story revolving around a female character. If she is interested in more of the fighting aspects of WWII, The Unwomanly Face of War by Svetlana Alexievich is a non-fiction book that really is a bunch of oral stories about women who fought for the soviets stitched together into a book. Most of these snippets are fairly short, so it is something of an anthology.
