Is the A Song of Ice and Fire series worth reading, even assuming it will never get finished?

I love fantasy books, so I'm sure I would enjoy this series, but if it doesn't even have a proper conclusion, I'm not sure it's worth it.

What I want to know is does the series end on a massive cliffhanger, that will (likely) never get resolved? Is the journey worth it, even if there is no destination?
