I have been reading a lot of Cormac McCarthy. I love how he uses words and how, in every paragraph, there seems to be some poetic statement.
That said, the world view that seeps in his books is pretty depressing. Aesthetically, I feel like I like everything. But the obsession with violence and cruelty in humanity and nature, while extremely interesting, can be overwhelming at times.
Would anyone have any recommended books where the prose is very strong, but it leans a little more toward the beauty of the world and humanity? Or even the tragic side. I love Virginia Woolf, who isn’t exactly hopeful, but at least I feel a deep sense of empathy in her writing.
Thanks for any help!
