Not sure if anything like this has been written but has anyone read a mystery with a detective (of sorts) but is set within the prison system? Sorta like the IQ novels. Where inmates know if they have an issue that needs solving they could come to cell 221B. All sorts of issues. From simple theft See: The Case of the Borrowed Phone Card. To complex murder See: The Pre-Execution Execution of William P. Bouvier. This Inmate Detective would have large well furnished cell where he holds consultations He def should have a sidekick/enforcer in prison. With those who owe him favors doing his bidding in the free world. This side kick would be an Archie to his Nero. Big guy though. This big guy owed his loyalty to our Detective after having proven his kid brother couldn't have robbed the pharmacy, killing its owner.. He was at a Birthday party the town over. Forcing cops to free him and arrest the real killer. The pharmacy owners step son who owed a gambling debt and thought he could steal the drugs kept in the pharmacy. Solving the case without leaving prison confines. Working this case creates a bond between these characters. Even though they are completely different ppl. Different walks of life. All the while The reader is kept in the dark of what our Detective Himself did to get locked up. An underlying mystery. Word is he killed his wife's lover after seeing them walk his favorite dog together. Others say it was a white collar crime. Something to do with tax fraud. Nobody knows for sure. Most of the guards/Warden like our Main Character Detective. There's that one sadistic guard though that becomes an antagonist to our protagonist. The Inmate Detective. Would anyone ready anything like that. Sherlock Holmes goes to Folsom type shit
