My brother (25) wanted “a good book” for Christmas. I immediately went to my shelf to look for anything I’ve liked so that I could get him the same book.
He is not really a reader, but he just started reading recently. The one book he owns and is reading right now is Animal Farm.
I looked at the books I have liked and narrowed it down to three books. But!! Apparently there is a sale on books right now as we approach Black Friday. So that got me thinking about maybe gifting him two-three books?
The one book I’ve already decided is The Book Thief. Nice, maybe a bit long, but I think it’s a nice book even for someone just getting into reading. (Also helps that it is maybe my favourite book.)
Now, the two other options I’m not as sure about. I’m leaning towards only getting him two for budgeting reasons. Still, if a book is wayyy cheaper than the other I might get him three. Driving Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk and Beautiful Boy by David Sheff are the two other books I was maybe thinking of getting him.
However, maybe that’s just not something a new-ish reader would enjoy? Maybe he was thinking of something more classic or “easy” to get into while still being good? The Book Thief is perfect because of that, but I need more suggestions from more avid and experienced readers! Maybe even male ones. I scratched the idea of getting ANYTHING by Murakami because of the weird way he describes women, so maybe not something that would evoke the misogynist in a man. A bit weird, but you never know haha.
I know this is a looong and maybe strange request, but please suggest me books to gift him!!

Based on Animal Farm…how about… Tailchaser’s Song by Tad Williams
…or… Quest for the Faradawn by Richard Ford
Just a couple shots in the dark…I’m not even sure if either of them art still in print…Good Luck, hope you find some B-Day gems for your Bro.
