Slightly unusual request that can’t be summarised in the title

This is for anyone who has read the manga Banana Fish. If you haven’t, then you won’t be much help.

Please recommend me a novel that is similar to Banana Fish, even if it’s just a single trope or theme. I’m not interested in the deep relationship between two males aspect of it. I liked the crime, mystery and action elements of the manga, with a charismatic protagonist at its centre. I want a story that would keep me on my toes even if it’s just almost as much as Banana Fish did.

I don’t have a lot of hope for this request, but I have an itch I need to scratch and I thought it was worth trying to ask for.
