    Hi!

How do you guys strategize with reading an incomplete series? I'm the type of person who loves binging shows, so naturally, I prefer reading my books in order. I realized this about myself just recently. I've bought all the books in the Game of Thrones series, but I don't have the motivation to start it because I know it's incomplete. I know that it will most likely stay as is, but I can't bring myself to start. Same with The Fourth Wing series – I've read the first two, I pre-ordered the 3rd back in January, but have no desire to open it until the final book is released. Now I'm experiencing the same dilemma with the Alex Stern Series and Brian Sanderson's Cosmere. I thought that I could re-read the books again when the next installment comes, but the thought of that makes me want to just wait. Does anybody have practical tips?

    1. The knowledge that book sales are a contributing factor to whether a series continues or not helps. Plus, I have a good imagination and find it fun to speculate about what will happen next and come up with theories. I do this even with completed works: backstories, what ifs.

    2. You just have to appreciate it for what it is, in terms of art. Contextualise it for what it is. My favourite ever books are Mervyn Peake’s *Gormenghast* novels. They remain famously incomplete; doesn’t stop me seeing them as utterly incredible and cherishing them for what they are.

I don’t, honestly. Unless a series is complete or has a close release date for the final book, I don’t bother.

    4. Brandon Sanderson has only written 5 of the planned 10 Stormlight Archive books – would you really wait for him to finish writing them all first?

I just read them – it doesn’t bother me at all that they’re not finished, you can still enjoy them I think.

    5. Did you wait for Endgame to come out before watching Iron Man?

Do you wait for a show’s finale to air before you watch the first episode?

    6. With a giant spreadsheet of all the series I’ve read so that I can remember which ones I need to revisit once new books are released.

    7. i dont usually intent to, but i prefer going into books as blind as possible, I sometimes ask a friend that has opposite likes from me to pls search if it’s complete or not, that is a good trick, but I still get incomplete ones once in a while
