My friend’s kid (12) picked up Crosstalk by Connie Willis while I was reading it. She devoured it and really loved the romance subplot. She’s looking for similar books, and I’d love to help her. I’m having trouble finding similar books, where the romance is compelling, but not necessarily the genre of the book. I’m seeking books that are no spice, and that have healthy depictions of relationships. I’d love any suggestions!

She might be in the right age range for books like *Confessions of Georgia Nicholson* series, The Princess Diaries, *Mates and Dates* series, The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.
She might like *To Say Nothing of the Dog*, also by Connie Willis? It’s the second in a series and the first is very dark, but you don’t have to read it to understand *To Say Nothing of the Dog.*
