Hey so pretty much, title. I haven't read a single book in my life, tried to read the thousand splendid suns but didn't hit me too well, (abandoned it on chapter 3)… So yeah, tryna make reading books a habit (I want to be cool) Suggest some! Please!

    1. The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett is pretty famous for getting people who don’t read to read. It’s mainly satire and fantasy. Very clever and full of puns if that interests you and still very relevant to society today.

    2. What type of storytelling or plots are you drawn to with movies/television/theatre? Crime? Romance? Fantasy? Mystery? Family drama? Action/adventure? History? Documentary/non-fiction/biography?

To me, (as a longtime reader and reviewer) it’s really not about a fool-proof book for everyone but finding the book that works for your own personal taste. Just looking at my own history on Netflix you can kind of see what kind of books I’ll like.

    3. Look for a genre that interests you. I’ll read anything if it holds my attention. When COVID hit I read the Jack Reacher series. That led into reading the Joe Pickett series and when I finished that I went into the Orphan X series. These are Stouffer’s Mac n cheese books. You’re not going to bust a brain cell reading them. But the series structure caused me to want to keep reading. When you get to the place where you are comfortable reading absolutely dive into the pages of The Count Of Monte Cristo. Best book I’ve ever read but a bit of un undertaking.

Well if u wanna read bcs u wanna be cool then I don’t think its gonna be easy for u to rlly get into reading bcs ppl who read read bcs they love reading … anyway u can start exploring genres and start with a book with a simpler language…u can start with a man called ove by Fredrick backhman, the Alchemist by paulo coelho or the silent patient by Alex Michaelides and if u want to go for classics then the white night or any jane austen.

Since I’m not sure what you’re interested in, I suggest you start with short stories or novellas. Some of my favorite short story authors are Shirley Jackson, Flannery O’Connor, O Henry, George Orwell, and Hemingway.

Lots to choose from and you’re more likely to finish them! Good luck.

Pick something you *want* to read, not something fancy or that someone says you should read.

If there’s a movie you like, like Running Man or Ready Player One or Hunger Games, grab the book

If you’re really into WW2 or dragons or baseball, find a book that incorporates your interest

If there’s a type of tv show or video game you like, get a similar book. I love Walking Dead so I read the hell out of World War Z.
