Basically, I’m not a big horror fan but this book seems like a mix of horror and fantasy. I’ve been curious about some of Barker’s other work but have never read him.
I can appreciate supernatural terror and the like, but lots of graphic violence can be a real turnoff for me. It’s a big book so I’d like to have some idea how intense or difficult it’ll be to stomach if I spend a lot of time then decide to drop it halfway through or something because it ends up being too gross.

From what I remember, it’s more of a fantasy novel than a horror. There are some horrific bits, being a Clive Barker novel and all, but that’s not the focus.
It’s more so dark fantasy than horror. I admittedly haven’t read it since the early 2000s, but I don’t recall any graphic violence (compared to the Books of Blood which had lots, and which I read around the same time).
