My husband is wanting to get more into reading, he currently reads maybe 1-2 books a year. He used to read more though. He just gets bored or frustrated by books easily.

He likes sci fi mostly, as well as some magical realism. He’s a fan of early Murakami novels (The Wind Up Bird Chronicles, etc), he liked Snowcrash but hated all the other Neal Stephenson books he’s read. He also recently read and liked the Three Body Problem.

He doesn’t like anything where the prose gets too flowery, he likes sparse, minimalist writing. A great plot, something that will keep him gripped. Not a ton of characters to track. I don’t think fantasy is for him.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! As a book lover I really want to help him find some authors he loves.

Try *Feed* by Mira Grant, if he likes that there are a bunch of other books in the series.. 2 direct sequels, a short story collection and *Feedback*, another perspective on the events of *Feed*.

Dungeon Crawler Carl – starts on the lighter side and quickly escalates. Highly recommend 😀

    3. Stories of Your Life and Others by Ted Chiang is a great option if he’d prefer shorter works that are gripping. Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky is another I recommend all the time because it’s epic in scope but surprisingly readable

Based on little else besides your mention of him liking Sci-Fi, how about The Long Earth by Stephen Baxter and Sir Terry Pratchett? It’s been a few years since I read it but I feel like the prose was not too flowery, I would say it’s got a smaller cast of important characters, and is mostly an adventure book about parallel universes.

      Fiction:
Never let me go, The Remains of the day by Kazuo Ishiguro
      James by Percival Everett
      Demon Copperhead by Kingsolver

Sci-fi : Project Hail Mary (audio is really good)

    6. I really enjoyed Supersize Island by JJ Walsh. Zippy, funny, and doesn’t take itself too seriously

    7. The Expanse series by James S.A Corey

The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K Dick

Planet of Adventure novels by Jack Vance
