I just started listening to Candlelit Tales, an Irish mythology podcast with a focus on oral storytelling, and I absolutely love it. I plan to buy their book to start with, but I'm a lover of pretty much all mythology, and my bookshelf doesn't reflect that enough.
My problem is that I grew up reading several collections of a mythology from the same culture, and I felt like some had beautifully written narratives, some had magnificent illustrations, and some upset me by possessing neither! I wouldn't mind owning 2-3 collections that each bring something amazing to the story when I read it again, but I don't know how to know if I'm picking a good one when I search on Amazon or at a book store. It doesn't help that most of the titles are too similar to distinguish.
So I'm here to ask, do you have a favorite? What do you love about it? Feel free to suggest more Irish ones, but I also love Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Mayan, and I'd love an opportunity to learn more stories from other cultures!
