I've been really bored lately, and wanting to get a book/series but I have no clue where to start lol. I feel like I would *really* like romance books, but the ones I've tried reading have been stupidly cringey and sappy and I don't want something like that. Anyone have any suggestions? Smut or not, doesn't matter

I will get down voted by the hard-core romance fans, but all romance is sappy, cringe, and formulaic. They meet, sexual tension builds, there is some sort of misunderstanding, they copulate once or twice and live happily ever after. Yawn.
You are going to have more success finding a genre you enjoy that has romance as a subplot. Here are some suggestions:
*Legends and Lattes*: romance, except with goblins and succubi and stuff
*Where the Forest Meets the Stars*: thriller with a heavy romantic subplot
*Fourth Wing*: romance with dragons
Friends, I am not shaming how you get your porn but romance is boring af.
Ruby Dixon’s books are real fun, high spice, cis-het monsters. Bull Moon Rising is the first in the series.
This is How You Lose the Time War is romantic and beautifully written, sapphic, no spice.
Alexandria Bellefleur’s Written in the Stars is a sweet, sapphic rom-com with medium spice.
The Unmaking of June Farrow by Adrienne Young is a lovely, het light fantasy romance, no spice.
This is how you lose the time war by El Mohtar and Gladstone (scifi romance)
Spinning silver by Naomi Novik (fantasy with romance)
