Feeling a bit nostalgic for all the beautiful books I’ve read in my lifetime. What are the five books that have stuck with you and make you glad to be a human?
Here are mine:
The God of Small Things — Arundhati Roy
Parable of the Sower — Octavia Butler
The Mars Room — Rachel Kushner
Rebecca — Daphne Du Maurier
Milkman — Anna Burns

The first three in ASOIAF (got me back into reading after my second hiatus, I read the first three in just over a month)
Dune (I have not read the second one yet, I kind of liked how this story ended)
The Martian (got me through my first reading hiatus in college)
Goblet of Fire or The Half Blood Prince (I’m torn between which book I like more, maybe goblet of fire? But it’s like 51/49)
The Horse and his Boy (my favorite book from Narnia)
Stones from the River – Ursula Hegi
A Thousand Splendid Suns – Khaled Hosseini
White Oleander – Janet Fitch
The Color Purple – Alice Walker
Shes Come Undone – Wally Lamb
East of Eden
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
Lonesome Dove

À la recherche du temps perdu — Marcel Proust
Solenoid — Mircea Cartarescu
Moby Dick — Herman Melville
The Brothers Karamazov — Dostoevsky
reflecting on this, i think i have a thing for doorstops. i can’t help myself though, there’s always so much to offer in these massive tomes. i’m sure my opinions will change as my tastes do… but all these have really stuck in my mind.
