Billionth time this has been asked I'm sure. I find reading difficult as my eyes gloss over and naturally skim through the words only half understanding what's being said but I have enjoyed books before and I'm sure I can again if I get back into the groove.

When I was a kid I enjoyed all of the Harry Potter books, later on I liked Percy Jackson. I remember liking Firestarter by Stephen King. A few years ago I read The Catcher in the Rye and very much enjoyed it, followed by the Hobbit which I read last year and did like it as well (although Tolkein's prose often made the imagery confusing and hard to follow).

I like shorter books, something I could get through in a week. Feel free to suggest your own but I do have a shortlist of interesting books I thought might be a good re-entry point.

A Song of Ice and Fire Series – I enjoyed the TV show up until when they ran out of book material.

Earthsea series – I've heard it described as Harry Potter but with a more interesting magic system, better character writing, and more thought out themes.

The Road – I heard it was written in a very straightforward blunt tone which might be easier to process and make my way through.

The Dark Tower series – Based on how I remember Firestarter I think I like the way Stephen King writes, Dark Tower seems interesting but I don't know if it's an easy thing to get into or not.

House of Leaves – I've heard it does things with the medium of books that are very very interesting. I was going to choose this but I've also heard it described by avid book readers as being very hard to get through.

So that's the shortlist. I don't mind any genre, I'm just looking for something to pick up and peck through. Are any of these good starting points? Like I said feel free to suggest your own, these were just ones I've been considering.
