This is going to sound utterly ridiculous, but I have trouble reading more than 20 pages or so in first or third-person present tense. Around that time I start feeling physically uncomfortable, and find myself putting the book down.
It's weird, because I'm fine with past-tense narration of any kind, or 2nd-person present tense, but 1st and 3rd just don't work. I'm 99% certain that this is because when I was learning to read and reading frequently, most contemporary books and older books were written past-tense, while nowadays present-tense seems to be everywhere, and so I'm just not used to it. 2nd-person-present is an exception because choose-your-own-adventure books were a bigger deal back then.
There are a ton of books with that have a great premise that I've turned down because they are in present tense. I want to change this. Have any of you encountered something similar and know how to fix this?
And to clarify, this occurs when reading books the old fashioned way, not with audio books.
