Any well written French literature?

I’ve decided to start reading books in French to try and get a hands on understanding of the language where I’ll sit and translate a couple chapters a day.

The biggest thing I want is to get an understanding of the language in context and situations. I’ve decided to look into non-fiction books on subjects I enjoy like history but I was also wondering if anyone had any books/series they found the writing or word choice especially memorable?
