Hello, I need some reading recommendations for a 6-year-old who loves humor. He has been reading comic books for a while but is just starting to read chapter books.
A few months ago, I read him Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and he loved it. More recently, he has started reading chapter books on his own. He started with the most accessible Roald Dahl books: The Magic Finger, George's Marvellous Medicine, and The Twits. He loved all three and finished them very quickly. I then suggested James and the Giant Peach, but he only read half of it and told me he didn't like it very much because it wasn't as funny as the others. He told me he wanted a very funny book like The Twits (his favorite). I found The Twits Next Door by Chris Smith and Greg James (I was afraid it might be a bit too much because it's considerably thicker than the novels he's read so far). He's reading it now and loves it, but he'll soon be finished and I'm out of ideas for what to give him next.
TIA!

Sideways stories from wayside school, by Louis sachar, remains a classic to this day IMO!
Check out “They call me no sam!” By Drew Daywalt. It’s a diary style so there are some pictures and the chapters are days. Hilarious book about a pug who thinks his name is No Sam. My 9 year old loves it!
Little Nicholas series by Sempe and Goscinny have been a consistent hit with all the kids (and grownups) I know!
Captain Underpants
Harriet the Hamster Princess
Matilda is a slow starter, but when you get to the point her strategy gets moving it’s fantastic.
The Beverly Cleary books.
Amelia Bedelia books are very funny; also Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle books
Thank you very much for all your recommendations! I’m checking them all out 🙂
The Mad Scientists Club by Bertrand R. Brinley
