I have a book that was chosen for bookclub and its terrible. The writing style is underdeveloped. Feels like it lacked consistency from both the author and editor. Not sure how they are a well known or liked writer.
Its fantasy and set in a fictional world. At times its feels like a king arthur time frame or like snow white, but it the dialog/wording is modern or at least came centuries after king arthur. The setting is odd as well. I find myself googling if that plant or creature even exists in the environments they are describing.
I want to finish for the bookclub, but I'm struggling.
Any advice on how to avoid DNFing?

If you want to finish for your book club, you’re just going to have to power through and come in with all the criticisms you’ve got. It would be worse to lie about it.
Why be so coy? Why not mention the title and author?
i have hate-read a few book club selections in my past, but i will not do that anymore..
Maybe get the audio book? Then it can yammer away while you drive and do the dishes
Audiobook? You can still absorb the story while cutting down the time it takes (compared to physically reading) to finish the book?
