I've listened to three total audiobooks, all being from Tamsyn Muirs Lost Tomb series, and walked away feeling like there must be stories out there that are a better fit for me.
I like character focused stories. I like characters who sometimes do fucked up shit or wrong shit because they got something wrong with them ESPECIALLY if that character is a woman. Complex female characters my beloved (this taste is why I picked up and finished the Locked Tomb. So many important and fucked up women 🥰)
But yeah from there it's all gravy. I like a side of romance, especially if sapphic and I like character work better when the characters are also out to do something cool, like killing God or eating souls. Horror also works, really just anything that isn't Slice of Life or something like that. I like crunch from a hard magic system, but I'm also flexible with more soft, vibe based magic systems.
I won't hold my breath but a transfem main character would be amazing, literally CONSUMED the Magnus Archives just because I knew the sequel series, the Magnus Protocol, had a trans woman as a main character (and that she was funny) and I don't regret that choice at all (she's also a complex character with a good arc and flaws and strengths and there's a little toxic Yuri in their too.)
I know this is reddit so I'm a little nervous asking for some of these things. I'm really not picky since I currently have nothing to listen to anyways
