I recently purchased a rare used book online and the prior owner was obviously a chain smoker. I used to smoke a pack a day for about 15 years earlier in my life, so there's no judgment here. But I still don't like the smell now and I have become sensitive to it. How do I get this tobacco smoke smell out of this book? It's a hard bound reference volume with a jacket and about 2000 pages on library quality paper.

    1. Put a bunch of dryer sheets between the pages throughout the book. Then tie it up in a garbage bag and put it in a closet for a couple of days

    2. Put it in a paper bag with some unscented dryer sheets or a cloth sachet of baking soda….. leave it a week or two

    3. Try putting it in a tupperware covered in dry, ground coffee for a few days. Charcoal or Cedar chips might absorb it as well.

This might be extreme, but put it in a car and ozone bomb it.

I did that to a car I owned that someone borrowed and smoked in, and I had stuff in the car that also got deoderized like a shirt. I’d imagine it works the same with a book. Try and leave the book propped open, so the ozone can get all the way in there.
