I’ve been struggling to get back into reading and I feel like my attention span is cooked. I really want a book that grabs me from the first chapters and makes me actually look forward to picking it up instead of scrolling.

Stuff I usually enjoy: I like strong characters, good dialogue, and stories that feel immersive. I don’t mind if it is fantasy, sci fi, thriller, or even literary fiction as long as it is engaging and not super slow or confusing just for the sake of it. Romance as a subplot is fine, but I am not looking for a pure romance book.

Stuff I do not like: I tend to bounce off very dense worldbuilding where nothing happens for 200 pages, or books that are so bleak it feels like a chore to read.

If you have any “could not put this down” type of books that pulled you out of a reading slump, I would really appreciate your suggestions.

    1. John Scalzi’s sci-fi **The Kaiju Preservation Society** is ‘a common man put into uncommon circumstances’. It moves along at a good pace.

Blake Crouch’s sci-fi man-on-the-run thriller **Dark Matter** ramps up after a few pages and never slows down.

5 reasons to read Platirius Infiltration:

      1. It’s not dense world-building.
      2. A princess kills the king, steals the throne, and maps out a diabolical plan to murder her co-regent/sister.
      3. Tragic, but not bleak.
      4. Fast paced action.
      5. The storyline is easy to follow.
