Don't get me wrong I absolutely love a good suspenseful thriller, but in between I need some more chill options that aren't going to stress me out too much. I find that sometimes if a thriller is a little too stressful/suspenseful for me I have to take breaks and get kind of dread reading on. Which isn't a bad thing for me I just need to have a mix of both. Im not necessarily only looking for mystery books either that's just what I usually stick to. So if you think you have an idea of a book that someone who almost always listens to mystery/thriller books might enjoy let me know.

Here are some examples of books that I liked that still fall into the mystery/thriller category that weren't too anxiety inducing for me:

    • "The Unquiet Bones" by Loreth Anne white
    • "Love, Mom" by Iliana Xander
    • "The Missing Half" by Ashley Flowers
    • "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie

That's all that comes to mind off the top of my head. I have really only just started reading much the last couple months so I haven't read all that many books. I'm always looking for any good book recs including the stressful ones so if you have any id love those too. I just feel like I need more slightly less stress inducing books to read in between too.

The Road is still the king of “we’re just the epilogue” bleakness, but the closest I’ve found:

      * Earth Abides (George R. Stewart) – super quiet, slow, beautiful extinction. Humanity just… fades.
      * I Am Legend (Richard Matheson) – literally the last guy, knows it’s over.
      * The Drowned World (J.G. Ballard) – planet cooked, no coming back, everyone losing their mind in the heat.

These three nail that “no crops, no animals, no future” vibe. Earth Abides is probably the softest landing if The Road wrecked you too hard.

    2. I feel like I maybe over recommend this, but maybe check out the Thursday Murder Club series? I think they are the most charming books.

    3. Have you tried Lisa Jewell? For me her books feel like a nice palate cleanser—they scratch the genre itch but are not completely unpleasant or leaving me dead inside afterwards. I’d start with None of this is True. The audiobooks are excellent and there are MANY!

    4. All of Janice Hallett’s books are very engaging without being stressful. And a fun format too.
