I truly enjoyed Monstrilio, but the tricky part is that because it’s such a gripping story, trying to follow suggestions by other people who liked it has not led me to anything good. It’s just a generally hard to dislike book so you might have all kinds of people liking it.
I liked it because I like weird and creepy, I like gothic and eerie vibes, and I like that on top of that, it still delivered a heartfelt story. So it was very well balanced for me. Not weird for the sake of weird, but also not just a typical sad novel.
I have experimented a lot with “eerie” or “weird” books since then and have ended up reading, sorry for the harsh words, some genuine trash.
I feel like Monstrilio ruined my life because I haven’t quite enjoyed much since, so I would love some genuinely similar recommendations even if in loose ways. Help!
Other books I liked just for extra information even if they don’t fit this request: the woman in white, coraline, rebecca, jane eyre, the sound and the fury, the book of disquiet
graphic novels/comics: over the garden wall, through the woods, seance tea party
