I've taken to reading in the mornings and am looking for something a little lighter.
I like Oscar Wilde and a lot of classics. I'm currently reading Dorian Grey and Moby Dick, but from the get go they're a bit too deep into characters and intense themes that make you think – I like being inspired but I don't want to necessarily start my day with musings on my wasted youth and failed ambitions.
I don't like mystery, horror, or anything I've ever seen on the best seller's list, so I default to the classics I know will likely be decent, but it obviously ends up fairly literary.
I've thought about something a little more like Murakami, where you can sort of get lost in the prose easily, but I find that if I let myself do that I do end up missing the point and getting lost in the sauce altogether, like that new age problem of watching a movie while scrolling on your phone and realizing you don't know what the movie is about. I forget which book was like that as it was a very long time ago.
I most enjoy well written fanfiction romance: characters I instantly care about in interesting situations, with an engaging premise, but I'm really particular with romance so I might avoid that for recommendations.
Thank you for any suggestions. Please let me know if what additional info, if any, would be of assistance.

Maybe you should try reading short stories. The Sunlight Press Literary Journal offers accessible fare. Try the holiday-themed short story [Liturgy of Light](https://www.thesunlightpress.com/2025/10/28/liturgy-of-light/) for starters.
Anne of Green Gables.
Well written but also light!
try virginia woolf’s “to the lighthouse” – it’s beautiful and lyrical without being too heavy first thing in the morning. her prose is like sipping tea while watching waves.
