the modern library top 100 novels is a good list if you want to browse them for one that grabs ya. what a good recommendation for you would be is hard to say unless we know what you like, where youre from, what philosophies you like, etc. some of my favorites that would be approachable are franny and zooey, the lord of the flies, huck finn, the great gatsby, of mice and men

The Picture of Dorian Grey is the only Victorian/gothic classic I’ve really liked
Otherwise I like little women, Emily of new moon, and Noel Streatfield books (ballet shoes). These books are a good place to start as they are more about regular life and less the sort of thing you’d study in English
