It’s been a while since I’ve picked up a book I couldn’t put down. Lately, I’ve been wanting to read more works by non-Western authors. What’s a book that really stayed with you?
One from my home country: R.U.R. by Karel Čapek. It’s a stage play so it’s a quick read, and it was this play that coined the word “robot”. I’ve read it for my graduation exam and IMO it’s oldie but goodie.

Consider *My Invented Country* by Isabel Allende, where she uses memoir format to present Chilean society (best way I can put it).

Taiwan Travelogue by Yang Shuang-Zi; I learned a lot despite the unreliable narrator and was very hungry through out the book because of all the descriptions of food.

Nigeria: Welcome to Lagos by Chibundu Onuzo
South Africa: Disgrace by JM Coetzee (warning: really dark)
Japan: 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami
I like this premise as well but I only speak English fluently so I’m limited in availability is many ways.
