Looking for more horror books. I watch a lot of horror/thrillers and I'm looking to expand that to my reading. At risk of sounding pretentious, I read a lot of classics/literary fiction. The only horror book I've read entirely was American Psycho, which I enjoyed. Any recs are welcome!!!

    1. I recommend Shirley Jackson’s works for literary horror: We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Haunting of Hill House, Hangsaman, The Sundial, The Birds’ Nest—plus her masterful short stories. Hope you enjoy!

    2. *Shagduk* by J.B. Jackson, while not exactly literary (it’s genre fiction), might appeal to you because of its academic setting and smart characters, not to mention the author’s deft handling of language. It straddles the horror/mystery/fantasy genres. It’s a pretty unique book.

    3. Maybe you’d like literary horror then? Basically it’s lit fic that uses horror elements. Some of my favourites:

Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield

Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado

      The Unworthy by Agustina Bazterrica

Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Interview with A Vampire, earlier Stephen King (Misery, Pet Semetary)
