If you like Golden Age ‘tec mysteries – and it sounds like you do – try Ngaio Marsh, Dorothy Sayers, John Dickson Carr and Georgette Heyer [her mysteries, not her historical romances!]
For something more contemporary try the detective Harry Bosch series by Michael connelly. LAPd detective investigates homicide while navigating tricky politics in the department. There are 30 plus books in the series
