Looking for books that are first, and foremost, funny.
My son is struggling to make the jump from his comfort reads (Diary of a Wimpy Kid and various comedic Minecraft books) into books at his reading level. He does fine with assigned reading in classes, but he is in 6th grade and in an advanced reading group so a lot of his assigned reading is heavier and lacking humor. I worry about him losing his interest in reading if he thinks all books for older kids are stressful, dramatic, and dire (he asked me why everyone in all these books comes from families with dead parents or families with kids that hate their parents and parents hate their kids.)
Would love suggestions for teen or YA books that are primarily funny. He likes observational humor, slapstick, slice of life, nature, and science books. He doesn't mind romance. Dislikes broken/neglectful families, abuse, war, animal harm, murder mysteries and thrillers.

Gordon Korman’s early works -Losing Joe’s Place, Son of Interflux, the MacDonald Hall books. My son is now 20 but they were a hit with him in the middle grades.
