Rothfus, Sanderson, Tolkien, or really anyone. I couldn't tell you the difference in their writing style I don't know if I'm missing something or if anyone would care to explain what it really is and how to distinguish different styles.
Is it repetition, word choice, sentence length?
All of the above?
None of the above?

I’m sure somebody will have a better answer than me because I don’t think I can put it into words. But just try reading a short excerpt from each author back to back paying close attention to the word choice and flow. Maybe next to each other it’ll seem more obvious. Sanderson vs Tolkien is a good comparison cause they’re such opposite.
I jumped from reading Sanderson to Cormac McCarthy. Try that and the prose absolutely will smack you in the face
Try replacing “prose” with “attitude” and think about the “attitude” of the book the next time youre reading. See if that help. That’s not perfect but it’s a starting point.
