Really loved Comyns matter of fact writing style. I am enjoying that very realist manner of writing with the subtle magical realism elements. A similar one, in a way, that I just read and loved was The Wall by Marlen Haushofer. Both of those are from the 50s so maybe any recs from that era? Preferable to female authors but it doesn’t have to be. Looking for something that maybe is a “classic” but isn’t necessarily a standard on an English lit syllabus, if that makes sense.

Did a recent re-read of Kafkas collected works which I really enjoyed as well as what appears to be a fave of this sub, I Who Have Never Known Men.

    1. **The Devil All the Time** by Donald Ray Pollock has the matter of fact feel, but is also quite beautiful and dark.
