I've met my reading goal for this year and I'm looking for something tho close out the year. I read almost anything, but don't tend to enjoy deep fantasy or sci Fi (meaning things with lots of world building that's hard to keep track of) and don't want to start a series at the end of the year.

Something wild and weird and cool. Something you'd be happy to end the year on, even if it doesn't make you feel happy haha.

Pluses for somehow being related to the end of the year, the holidays or winter (which is the current season in my hemisphere), but not in a totally obvious way.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. I kind of wish I’d be ending the year on Tom’s Crossing – it’s been one of the best, if not the best reads in many years that I can think of. Depends on your pacing though as it’s massive. Incredibly moving story (imo) and features winter!

So this has bits of fantasy and sci fi and isn’t related to winter, but when I read it it grabbed me with both hands and didn’t let go: *Light From Uncommon Stars* by Ryka Aoki.

    3. I just finished White Fang by Jack London and it was amazing. First time reading it, looong past middle school when most people read it. Free on project Gutenberg or $0.50 on kindle

    4. The first four books of The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells. They are novellas, and so the four of them equal out to about the size of a standard novel when put together. They are sci-fi, but they don’t go too heavy into world building and the heavy dose of sarcasm and general humor help to keep you from getting bogged down by it.

There are 7 total in the series so far, but those first four can easily stand on their own.
