I am looking for a good book to gift a family member, based off their recent reads listed above what would you recommend them? I’m seeing a kinda dystopian, maybe eerie introspective theme but I honesty haven’t read too much in this genre so I don’t know of a good book i’ve read personally that I think they will like except maybe The Illustrated Man or (it doesn’t really fit the vibe but i loved this book) In Cold Blood. I don’t read much lol. So if anyone has a recommendation they’d like to pitch in please do! Thank you.

I’ve read most of those books. You could try:
Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman. Since your friend liked Once & Future King, this is also medieval fantasy but historical dark fantasy with a horror element as it’s set during the Black Plague in medieval Europe. It also features a knight, but one who is protecting a strange girl, as they travel the roads of France, encountering strange things that sometimes are fantastically monstrous. There is somewhat of a post-apocalyptic vibe as Europe was falling apart and was in chaos because of the widespread infections of the bubonic plague.
I loved this novel and while it came out in 2012, I don’t think many people heard of it until recently as it’s gotten a lot of buzz in recent years on Reddit.
Julia by Sandra Newman is a retelling / sequel of 1984 as it tells the story from Julia’s point of view instead of Winston (Julia was Winston’s lover in 1984). I haven’t read it but it came out relatively recently in 2023 and the author had the approval from the George Orwell estate to write the novel.
The Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah is a popular dystopian novel that also came out in 2023, about the televising of prison death matches, primarily focusing on two women fighters.
