Hi, I am looking psychological and philosophical books about the human need of a distraction weather it be doom scrolling, playing video games, investing your mind into something that stops you from thinking about serious life choices.
I am not looking for the type of book that gives you advice on how to live your life, but rather a book about the psychological effects of doing that.
Or about the philosophy of it and why you should or shouldnt involve distractions. As a person on their 20s being decently successful but still being at the start of my career I just feel stuck because career wise seems like its based by of agism making you a trapped in a system that will prevent you from buying a home till you’re in your 40s, and exhaust so its hard to accomplish anything after work (I am trying), but often I feel this guilt when playing video games or traveling or scrolling social media that i am wasting my life away. Then i am also debating whether these distractions are good because it will make me happier and stall my thinking as I said I am doing way better than average but its still slow progression.

Been reading TRUTH WITHOUT APOLOGY (yeah, Amazon #1),& this one bit really stuck with me:-
To know yourself,
don’t look at what you celebrate.
Look at what you tolerate.
Don’t look at what you post.
Look at what you protect.
– Excerpt from Acharya Prashant’s book TRUTH WITHOUT APOLOGY
Honestly, solid stuff if you’re into psychology/philosophy or just figuring yourself out. Acharya Prashant keeps it blunt and real. Worth checking out.
