I’ve been reading a lot of dystopia books, as they’re one of my favorite genres. However, I need a break from it.
Looking for fiction that’s humorous or lighthearted and preferably not a series (a couplet is ok).
Ive really enjoyed Hitchikers Guide and A Confederacy of Dunces in the past.
I’ve not been big on true/heavy fantasy books, but do enjoy Magical Realism and light fantasy. I’m not opposed to trying a lighthearted fantasy book if one exists, but have no interest in books like ACOTAR, the Witcher, or GOT (although I do like heavy fantasy television shows and movies).
Thanks for any help!

Christopher Moore or Terry Pratchett !
Tis the Season to read Hogfather by Terry Pratchett!
Yahtzee Croshaw, funny author with great characters.
Differently Morphus and Existentially Challenged – Governmental agency involved in the regulation of magic and extra dimensional beings.
Mogworld – Main character is undead. Hijinks ensue.
I love Laurie Notaro’s essays, but since you specified fiction, There’s a (Slight) Chance I Might Be Going to Hell: A Novel of Sewer Pipes, Pageant Queens, and Big Trouble is fun and a similar vibe to her essays.
If you want to ease out (or back in) then Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde is a quirky dystopia – or the Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde which is a lighthearted fantasy in a world with time travel, cloned dodos but without television where having an English Literature degree makes you something akin to a celebrity or secret agent.
Pratchett is also great – though can cover dark themes – murder, tyranny, the human condition etc – I’d recommend starting with Guards! Guards! or Mort.
