Fiction Recs? Emotional prison of their own making

I’d like recommendations for fiction novels where the protagonist is living in a mental prison, basically keeping themselves as emotional hostage. Examples would be the golem in Helene Wacker’s The Golem and the Jinni and Thomas Heuvelt‘s The Echo.
