I'm really loving classic literature right now. My favorite recently was The Picture of Dorian Gray – I just thought it was such a creative and exciting plot with thoughtful themes, well developed characters, and some humor.
Can you suggest some other classic novels (or novellas or short stories too) that you think I'd like? More modern classics are fine too. I want something that keeps me turning the page and has an exciting plot. For a counterexample, I'm not in the mood for something like East of Eden, which I loved but is not the most exciting plot to me throughout most of the middle sections. And I don't want to have to keep 25 characters and their relationships and family trees and geography straight. I want there to be more consistent action and plot development, I like dramatic things
I'm honestly kind of new to reading fiction for leisure because I always put myself down as a slow reader growing up. I didn't read a lot outside of my required school readings. Of what I read I remember enjoying Frankenstein, Macbeth, Metamorphosis, and Lord of the Flies, at least back then
