    1. I’ve never found the appeal of non-fiction. I just can’t find it very interesting as a leisure activity.

I read more nonfiction than fiction. I’m not sure why. It’s not intentional, the books just interest me. But I also spent almost three decades of my life in school, so perhaps it just feels familiar.

    3. I never liked the word escapism when it came to fiction.

When I started reading – a decade or so ago, I read a lot of non-fiction. Now I’m deeply into fiction

TV shows like Friends or whatever I might binge on netflix are escapism, but novels are far from it.

For example I read Yuval Noah Harari’s Sapiens, the few big big big idea on there sometimes can com from bits in good literature. You read a few fiction books and whilst it’s not spelled out, the idea of, say, shared fictions is so so clear.

“Did this need to be a book? Or could it have been a caption?”

      This is also true

I don’t know. Fiction I think teaches me things without tell me that that’s what it’s doing.

Non-fiction is still important, just that word escapism doesn’t feel correct

    4. I can’t help but look at the fact that Olivia Nuzzi got a major book deal for ‘American Canto’ and wonder if the problem is less that people aren’t interested in nonfiction but rather that the publishing industry is increasingly out of touch with its readers. And frankly, good taste.
