Could someone suggest a book for my wife for Christmas?
She reads mostly “heady” fiction, like books from Powells tournament of books and Pulitzer Prize winners and honorees. She is also voracious, I think she’s read more than 60 books per year for the past five years, so anything from that period of time is probably out. I was thinking something along the lines of a more “classic” fiction.
Thank you in advance, and I look forward to reading your recommendations!

Faces in the Crowd by Valeria Luiselli is modern day Mexican magical realism.
Here are a couple of suggestions:
[**The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro**](https://amzn.to/3L0r42z) A quiet, devastating modern classic about memory, regret, and emotional restraint. Ishiguro’s restrained prose and deep psychological insight make this a favorite among Pulitzer- and Booker-adjacent readers who appreciate subtlety and lasting impact.
[**A Passage to India by E. M. Forster**](https://amzn.to/456tLGI) A true literary classic that explores friendship, colonialism, misunderstanding, and moral complexity. Rich in ideas and atmosphere, it rewards careful reading and still feels remarkably relevant, making it a strong choice for an experienced, voracious reader.
I attached the links in the titles above to their Amazon pages for you to check them out. Enjoy!
