*Lust for Life* by Irving Stone is a novel about Vincent Van Gogh which sticks pretty closely to the facts of his life.
*Giving up the Ghost* is Hilary Mantel’s memoir. It’s episodic and focuses mostly on her childhood and her illness (endometriosis, which doctors failed to diagnose for years).
Down and Out in Paris and London is George Orwells memoir detailing his poverty
