I’m searching for new reads to try in the new year, and am hoping to find some suggestions from readers here.
**I tend to enjoy books like this:**
– Reflective and contemplative
– Slice of life but may also have interesting things to where the book isn’t boring
– Character study
– Nostalgic
– Atmospheric (but not dark)
– Classics that are well-written and layered
– Good characterization
– A strong sense of place and lovely descriptions of where the character is living
**Books like the above that I’ve enjoyed:**
– The Remains of the Day
– The Correspondent
– There’s No Such Thing as an Easy Job
– My Cousin Rachel by Du Maurier (I’ve also read Rebecca)
*Books with a heavy focus on storytelling narrative that I’ve enjoyed:*
– The Which Way Tree
– Shane by Jack Schaefer
– Say Nothing by Patrick Radden Keefe (NF)
– I tend to dislike books with a lot of unnecessary cussing; I find it distracting. I also don’t like books where women are objectified or overly sexualized. If the author can’t write women….And not wanting anything with a heavy emphasis on trauma or abuse
