I am searching for a couple books to give to a friend who will soon be studying Linguistics & Italian in university, who has previously studied German and Latin at an high-school level. From my research, I have found “The unfolding of language” and “Through the language glass” by Guy Deutscher as candidates, but currently she’s in a stage in her life where she might not be up for starting a dense, technical book, so I was wondering if someone could give me an overview of the suitability of these books, or any other recommendations. she also interested in Italian culture, so any fiction or non-fiction recs on that topic would be appreciated.
