Super embarrassing to admit in a sub like this but I feel like this is the right community to ask! I have never finished a single book in my adult life and I really really want to but I honestly don’t know what type of books I like. I also have been recently diagnosed with ADHD so I think that plays a role.

What I’ve tried to read semi-recently:

Lots of self help books – I’m usually hooked until I’m like 25% through and then I’m over it

The Bone Code by Kathy Reichs

Talking with psychopaths and savages by Christopher Berry-Dee

    Rush by Maya Banks

Here are things I do like:

I like true crime documentaries and podcasts (Morbid is my favorite)

I like learning (law/politics, how things are made, how things and systems work)

I like learning about different perspectives and life experiences but I’m not really into history.

I don’t think I’m into fiction but I’m willing to try if anyone has good suggestions!

Please suggest a book for a want-to-be reader! TYIA

    1. I’d recommend any non fiction by Mary Roach. She has alot of approachable books on differnt topics. I’d pick the one closest to what you like to watch and go from there.

    2. BloodandFiendfyre on

Firstly, a lot of non fiction esp self help has a page minimum to hit so they tend to have to really pad them. You usually get everything you need in the first 1/4 to 1/2 so don’t be too hard on yourself for quitting them.

I’ll be gone in the dark by Michelle McNamara. It’s about the golden state killer

Radium Girls. It’s very interesting. It is about a historical time but not a dry history nonfiction if that makes sense. Super engaging.

Reading Lolita in Tehran. Really wonderful about life in Iran.

Trevor Noah’s Born a Crime is excellent.

The Man From the Train is true crime (though historical crimes)
