Suggest a book that makes you stop reading and just… sit there for a second.
I’m looking for stories with moments so intense you have to close the book to collect yourself. Could be emotional devastation, jaw-dropping reveals, or even a spicy scene that hits like a freight train. Any genre is fine. What got you?

I don’t lean towards too many emotional books, the only one I’ve read and it might be quite tame based on some other answers is Rust and Stardust
A Nervous Splendor by Frederic Morton. Historical nonfiction that is extremely detailed and poignent; the latter half honestly made me quite emotional, and the book as a whole deals with themes that apply to our society today in ways that made me pause and contemplate.
