I’m looking for a dark epic fantasy (so a series would be fine) that’s more literary than just purely story driven. I’m also asking for something without knights, paladins, and the like. Not really interested in the medieval vibe. A magic system is fine, just…no dragons and armored knights please. Any ideas?

Have you explored urban fantasy? Or lit RPGs?
– Broken Earth Trilogy by NK Jemisin. On the more literary side (focus on prose and themes) and it’s not medieval doesn’t have knights or dragons etc
– Traitor Baru Cormorant — first book has no magic, sequels it’s unclear if it’s magic or superstition. Very strong focus on themes and character.
